How Does A Homeless Person Spend Their Money?

The answer is quite simple. It is none of your business.

I walked downtown today and as usual, there were a few homeless people sitting on the sidewalk.

With hat in hand, I observed one man politely asked the person in front of me if he could spare any change.

This man deliberately stopped, looked down towards the person by his feet, and boldly stated, “Why? So you can buy alcohol or drugs?”

The first thing that ran through my mind was the words of an elder.

The only time to look down on another person if we are helping them up.

Secondly, I thought, so what if he did choose to buy a bottle of wine, or even drugs? As a society we can be so quick to make judgments based on what our eyes see. The bottle of vodka might be just what that man needs to get through a particularly difficult day.

Without a conversation it is impossible to know what is truly taking place in another individuals life.

Regardless, let me just get to my main point.

When we give something away, it is no longer ours.
The true spirit of giving is to give without expecting anything in return.

When we give something away, there are not supposed to be any parameters attached, or rules that dictate what one can or cannot do with their money.

I would encourage you to think about the reason that you give in the first place.

And the next time that you give, I would challenge you to simply give freely.
